A Community-First Approach

North Plains Living is independently owned and locally published. We partner with independent contractors and contributors, not a large corporate staff, which allows us to stay flexible, personal, and deeply connected to the community we serve.

All opportunities listed below are paid, independent contractor roles. These positions are project-based or commission-based and do not include employee benefits. Contractors are responsible for their own taxes and required documentation.

Current Opportunities

Writer

Independent Contractor | Paid Per Article

We’re looking for a talented storyteller to help share the stories of the people, businesses, and organizations that make North Plains such a special place to call home.

What you’ll do:

• Interview local business owners and community members

• Write engaging, story-driven articles for North Plains Living

• Capture the unique stories behind local businesses and organizations

• Meet publication deadlines and communicate with the publisher throughout the writing process

Compensation:

• Per article compensation

• Independent contractor position

• Currently seeking a writer for 1 regular article per issue, with the potential for 2–3 additional articles as needed

This role is a great fit if you:

• Enjoy interviewing people and hearing their stories

• Have strong writing and communication skills

• Are self-motivated and comfortable working independently

• Can meet deadlines and manage your own schedule

• Want to help celebrate and strengthen the North Plains community

• Previous writing, journalism, blogging, or content creation experience is a plus, but not required.

• Local knowledge of North Plains is a plus, but not required.
